Today there are more than 40 types of oats produced worldwide. Oats is widely used as a human food and animal food.

 
In addition to that oats is one of the most nasty weeds. That is why many farmers avoid dealing with oats.

 
Ukrainian climate is ideal for good oats harvest. Oats likes humid soils and endures cold well. Oats seeds can tolerate even frost.

 
Oats origins in Mongolia. Oats is a little younger that whets and barley, its history is about 2 thousand years.

 
During Middle Ages oats was a vital part of peasants nutrition. In Germany oats was also used for beer production (so called white oats beer).

 
Ukraine produces much less oats as it could and does not belong to the 10 leading world oats exporters. Traditionally Ukraine pay oats much attention than it does to wheat, corn and barley.

 

During Soviet times oats was cultivated mainly in non-fertile zones. World leader of oats exports are Russia, Canada, Australia, Poland and USA.

 
Oats is rich in many healthy nutrients: fiber, vitamins and minerals. In Ukraine oats is a raw material for oats flakes, oats biscuits and animal food.

 
The culinary use of oats has increased during last 10 years. Oats flour cannot be used for bread baking, but it is often added in bread baking mixtures. Oats can be used as a milk substitute (oats milk).

 
Oats has many medical and preventive qualities. It is used as a cure for many illnesses.
